Thanks for the reply. I have a request regarding a lady I sat next to at the conference in May. I didn’t get her name but she had flown in from Hong Kong, I think. She had undergone microwave ablation. Would it be possible for you to put me in contact with her to see if she may be willing to share her experiences?
Hi Andrea, so sorry to hear about your Dad. My husband has been on a this journey for nearly two years. The advice I would give you is to go bang on some doors & push as hard as you can. Tell the Drs that you don’t understand & need more info. My husband has private health insurance & even so, as his secretary for all things medical I have found that I have to push, chase & ask the same question several times to get an answer.
I really think that he should have been referred to a specialist oncologist by now. Perhaps you could go to PALS at one of the NHS hospitals your Dad has attended & ask them to help
you. I would also recommend going to your nearest MacMillan support centre (ours was based in an NHS hospital) or call their helpline & talk to them, they can also point you in the right direction. If you can try to take someone with you, two pairs of eyes & ears are better than one.
You could switch to private…..just as an FYI I was told by the Insurance Co. that they had budgeted £125,000 for my husband’s treatment last year. That was chemo, major operation & all the tests & scans, follow ups etc that go with.
Hello Helen, thank you for such a fast response. I am very grateful for all the info. I have already acted on one of your suggestions & spoken to the Insurance Co about getting a second opinion, which is an option they will help us with. I didn’t know about the molecular profiling so I am going to follow up on that too.
I was feeling very low & starting to feel as if all doors were closing in on me. Thank you so much again for giving me something to try for my husband.
