Virgin London Marathon 2010

The forecast was for a hot day for this year’s London Marathon, the first ever to be sponsored by Virgin, so it was a pleasant surprise when Sunday 25th April dawned somewhat cooler and damper than expected.

AMMF’s two runners, Trevor Sibley, running the London Marathon for the second time for the charity on his own ballot-won place, and Ilkay Yilmaz Blacker, running on AMMF’s Silver Bond place, joined a record 36,984 starters at Greenwich, the largest field ever in the 30 years of the event.

Both AMMF’s runners came home safely, although Ilkay sustained a muscle injury at mile 15 which significantly slowed her down. Trevor crossed the line at an excellent 4:28:23, and Ilkay, despite her painful injury, came in at a very respectable 6:37:51.

They both showed superb grit and determination – in their training, running the marathon and in raising a significant amount of sponsorship to support AMMF.

Many congratulations and thanks to them both.
