Mary Murray - Age: 84
Mary passed away on 21st August 2024 having been diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma 10 weeks earlier. Mary was a vibrant, active & glamorous 84 year old. Her days were happily filled with family, lunches out with friends, church & activities.
She had been in remarkable health for her age until April when she began to feel more tired than usual. At the end of May she developed jaundice and was admitted to hospital in June when she received her diagnosis - advanced & a life expectancy of 3 - 6 months. A biliary stent was fitted and following an infection she came home. Treatment was not possible due to her bilirubin levels being too high.
We enjoyed 7 weeks doing as much as she was able, managing to have some lovely days out. Unfortunately eating out was no longer the enjoyable experience it had once been due to her reduced appetite but the weather was sunny, something Mary had always delighted in. During this time her 6th Great Grandchild was born - Margot and Mary was overjoyed.
At the end of a lovely, sunny, peaceful day spent in the garden, Mary developed an infection & was re- admitted to hospital & diagnosed with Biliary Sepsis. Following IV antibiotics, she was much improved although very uncomfortable with the increasing ascites. Then mid morning of Wednesday 21st August she rapidly deteriorated & passed away in the early evening comforted by her 3 children, one son-in-law & 2 daughter in laws and 4 grandchildren.
Mary had so much more life to live and passed away all too soon. We miss her every single day but are so lucky to have had such a kind & loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother & great grandmother.
Our family is delighted to support AMMF in the hope that progress can be made in improvements for all those diagnosed with this dreadful disease.
