Research Fellow – Dr Abigail Zabron

Dr Zabron was the first AMMF Research Fellow, and was awarded £65,904 to carry out a 2 year fellowship at Imperial College London, investigating novel biomarkers of cholangiocarcinoma under the mentorship of Professor Simon Taylor-Robinson and Dr Shahid Khan.
Working with bile samples obtained at ERCP from patients with malignant or benign obstruction, candidate discriminatory biomarkers were identified. Final data suggested raised biliary NGAL was a sensitive and specific biomarker of HPB malignancy, and resulted in publication in an international peer-reviewed journal, as well as being the topic of further grant applications for validation in a larger cohort.
