Alan Peter Ashworth - Age: 71

My Father Alan was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) on the 26th February 2019.

He sadly passed away on the 22nd March 2019 just 3 weeks and 3 days after diagnosis which left all our family absolutely devastated.

Everything happened so quickly so we did not really have time to take it all in. A couple of days before my dad died he was nearly discharged as the stent that had been fitted to clear his blockage was seen to have worked. It was only 2 days later that we realised it hadn't worked and his condition deteriorated quickly.

My Dad worked mainly as a plasterer but was a good general builder and worked hard all of his life. He was a larger than life character who always had people laughing. He was kind and generous and would help anybody in any way he could and many of his friends and family benefitted from his generosity. Each time any of us had visited, as you left he would always say mind how you go and be careful as this was his kind nature.

Even in his last days in the Royal Blackburn Hospital he was thinking of others around him and asked us to bring one of his walking sticks in for another patient he'd befriended who was struggling to walk.

As you always said to us Dad, 'Mind How You Go'. Be Careful, We will love and miss you forever.
