Aintree University Hospital, Liverpool

Mr Hassan Malik

Working in partnership with Liverpool University’s Institute of Translational Medicine, the team at University Hospital Aintree are constructing a tissue-matched-array for immuno-histochemical staining for hENT1 and Ki67 expression in resected and biopsy specimens from metastatic cholangiocarcinoma.

If hENT1 expression is demonstrated to have prognostic and predictive effects related to gemcitabine-based chemotherapy, then expression of this biomarker in patient’s tumours potentially could be utilised to stratify patients to appropriate treatments.
