CC Day 9 – Guest Post by Natalie Meikle

Andrew Ian Dempsey sadly lost his battle with cholangiocarcinoma on 13th December 2015 aged only 55. A loving family man, adored by many. His granddaughter Priya-grace was born 29.10.16 and sadly, he never got to meet her. But she will learn all about her grandpops.

My poem for My Dad, My Hero

The world is full of heroes, some you may know by name
For me there is one hero, in my heart you will remain
You were not only my dad, you were a very special friend
It broke my heart to witness, but I’m glad I was with you ‘till the end.

I’ve always been daddy’s little girl, no matter how big or small
You were always there when I needed you, picked me up when I’d fall
I loved you from the very start, over time that love grew and grew
My first steps were to my hero, that hero dad is YOU!!

You were brave and so courageous, suffering more than we could see
You did this to protect us, our protection was your key
You really are my hero; I wasn’t ready for you to leave
I love and miss you very much, I’m struggling to grieve

I always tried to make you proud and that will never change,
I’ll try my best to carry on, because just like you, my hurt turns into rage
Thank you for all you did for me, I’m so proud to call you dad
You put everyone before yourself, you’re the best dad I could have had

I’ll think of you looking down on me, when I’m stuck still showing me how.
I’ll never be ready to say goodbye
Please sleep tight for now until we meet again my pops,
When I can feel you cuddle me tight
I’ll think about you daily, morning through to night

Me and my husband, Jody, are fundraising for AMMF and will continue to do so.
