CC Day 23 – Guest Post by Victoria Carney

In memory of my big Sister, Sarah Jane Carney – 07.10.1975 – 12.03.2015 (Aged 39)

I’m very honoured to be asked to write a guest post for a second year. I’ll just give you a little background of Sarah, and my journey with AMMF since she passed away.

Sarah’s journey with Cholangiocarcinoma started in February 2014 after she was wrongly diagnosed with another type of liver cancer the previous month. Her prognosis was 9 months, but she defied the odds and fought it for 13 months. Sarah lived her life to the full, music was one of her passions and you would never find her far from the dance floor!

After Sarah passed away, I contacted AMMF to carry out Sarah’s wishes to help raise funds to find an earlier diagnosis and raise awareness of Cholangiocarcinoma. As Sarah was 39, I decided on a challenge – 39 events for her 39 years. My first event was completed on 3rd May 2015, and I will finish with the London Marathon exactly 2 months from today – 23rd April! My events have been a great source of comfort to me, I feel Sarah with me on every one and sometimes wish she’d give me a little push across the line! I’ve had very tough times in some of these events, but enjoyed each and every one.

The 5k’s – sometimes my favourite as they’re over the quickest! The mile open water swim was a fear conquered – after a minor panic attack in the lake!  And the Marathon will be the perfect way to finish – a lifelong dream of mine. I know Sarah will be there with me that day; she wouldn’t miss it for the world!

My journey with AMMF has only just begun, and I can’t thank them all enough for their continued support, especially Debbie, who I always enjoy receiving an email from.
